'Featured Beauty' in Wheels & Heels Magazine!

I was so excited when I finally got the news that I was the 'Featured Beauty' in this month's Wheels & Heels Magazine!  I had done a test shoot with them back in September and I found out this weekend they were going to be featuring me in 3 different articles!  I feel so lucky and blessed to get this wonderful opportunity and what an awesome Christmas present!

I'm so thankful that I got to work with Py, the talented Photographer from Wheels & Heels Magazine on our shoot in Alhambra.  Not only did our photos turn out great, I had an absolute blast and we had so much fun on set!  There's a ton of photos on the Wheels & Heels Website and the articles also include an interview section.

Magazine Test Shoot Photos :)

At the end of August I did a Test Shoot for a Car Magazine and I finally got some photos from the shoot.  The Editors aren't sure if they'll be used for the Magazine or not, or if I'll do another photo shoot if I do get chosen for the Magazine but it was exciting to see these new photos that are totally different than anything else I've ever shot and I wanted to share them with all of you!

Magazine Test Shoot

Monday was an exciting day because I was re-signing with my Agent at Commercial Talent Agency for another year.  I'm hoping that I'll go out on more Auditions this year than last, and continue the bigger and better trend that she's helped to create!  I'm working hard but I can always do more so I've just got to keep it up and it will pay off.

On my way out of the office in West Hollywood, I was walking up a hill off of Sunset Blvd to my car when one of the Star Tour Buses was driving up and pointing out the celebrity homes in the area when I heard a beep beep beep.  I turned to look and heard the person on the PA say, 'Folks, we have our first celebrity sighting, it's J.Lo.  We've got J.Lo. right here!'  People started pulling out their camera's and started taking my picture when I realized they were talking about me!  What?!  I had to laugh and smile because I actually did look a little like her with my hair in a bun on the top of my head, jean shorts, gold wedges, and a bright orange top, plus my Ray Ban style glasses.  'J.Lo. smile for your fans, wow, we got to see one!' was the last thing I heard before they turned the corner at the top of the hill.  And that was my brush with fame for the day, quite exciting :)

Yesterday, I was doing a Test Shoot for a Car Magazine in Alhambra.  A Test Shoot is basically a practice shoot before shooting an actual magazine spread.  This way, a photographer can get a feel for your personality and style and see how you are to work with.  I pride myself on being prepared and on-time, so when the Photographer said to be there by 7, I asked if I could come at 6:30 pm so I could freshen up and relax just before our shoot and he happily obliged my request.  Before I left for the shoot I packed 2 bags.  I had tons of clothing options and a whole duffel bag full of shoes and boots.  Of course, I only ended up wearing one pair of heels, and that's usually how it goes.  We did 5 different looks at the shoot, all very edgy and super high-fashion with all these different angles.  As we peeked at the photos throughout the shoot I was excited because first of all, I looked tall (yay!) and this was a totally different style than I've ever shot.  This photographer shoots for the magazine all the time and we worked so well together!  We made a great team and I felt comfortable around him and adventurous to try new poses, even if it wasn't perfect it made things unique and we found some great angles because of that.

We finished the shoot at 9 pm and I felt like we got so many varieties and I think going through the photos to find a few to keep is going to be very difficult.  I'm hoping that my knowledge of cars and experience at Car Shows will give me an edge and help me to be one of the models featured in the magazine!  Fingers crossed everyone!!

Oh, and I ate Pizza last night for Dinner...isn't that what all models do after a shoot :P

Manic Monday

Last Sunday I prepared for the week ahead:  Karaoke, meetings, auditions, Bartending at Irish Times, and of course, Dine LA!  Little did I know that my slightly busy week was going to be doubled!

I found out I got booked on a Trade Show on Sunday evening around 7 pm and the rehearsal was on Monday at noon in Downtown LA.  On Monday morning, I got everything packed up since I had the Dodger game that night and then I was on my way to the LA Convention Center.  While I was on my way the address changed and so I adjusted and made my way to the Millenium Biltmore and figured I would be able to find parking around there for around $15.  Then as I was just getting into Downtown the address changed again and I had to go to the Westin.  Thankfully, Downtown is a lot of buildings all in one area; the only problem is the traffic and one-way streets.  AND that parking everywhere I looked was $38!  I'm sorry, but that is highway robbery!  I ended up parking a mile away in a $16 lot and ran in what direction I thought I needed to be.  Mind you, I don't have an iPhone, I don't have Internet Access on my phone, and was in the midst of high rises in unfamiliar territory, so I called my Mom told her my coordinates and had her point me in the right direction and ran a mile in my 4 inch heels, skinny jeans, and sweater, because I still wanted to be business casual for the meeting.  Not fun.

When I finally made it the Westin and found the Meeting Room we were in, the presentation had already started but because I wasn't an employee it was ok for me to be a couple minutes late.  I met one of the other Trade Show Models, Deb, for the AACC Medical Convention and she told me to grab some food and then take a seat.  Yes, please!  The buffet was amazing; I got both chicken and salmon, along with a caprese salad, (extra mozzarella) broccolini and asparagus, and a lemon dessert.  The food was so good and totally unexpected.  After the meeting was over we talked with our contacts and got the details for tomorrow's show.  I took a few notes, met the rest of the girls, Amanda and Amy, and Amy looked familiar and while we couldn't figure out how we knew each other we had the rest of the week to get to know each other!

Lucky for me I got to walk back to my car this time instead of run and I made an appointment to meet with the Owner of Brass Monkey to talk about Hosting Karaoke there.  my friend, Lucas, has been working there for years and said there might be an opening in the next few weeks.  I drove from Downtown to Korea Town and was able to meet with A* before he left for the day.  He also owns Boardwalk 11 and since I work next door at Irish Times he thought he could possibly have me fill in there for Karaoke or Bartending.  Cool!

After my meeting at Brass Monkey I headed up to North Hollywood to meet Neil and grabbed some Starbucks for him because he had to work the rest of the afternoon before we met Johnny at the Dodger game.  I was able to get my work-out in and go through all my Castings and e-mails, plus get all the information for the Trade Show faxed to my booking Agent.  I was bummed because I had to skip an Audition that I had to re-schedule from the week before because I was working, and now I couldn't go the re-scheduled one this week and I also got an e-mail from a Magazine asking me to Test Shoot for them on Wednesday but I couldn't shoot with them because of the Show and Karaoke.  I'm keeping my fingers that I can re-schedule that for this next week.

Soon enough it was time for the Dodger Game.  Neil and I headed to Dodger Stadium around 6:15 pm for the 7:10 start time; we were meeting Johnny there because he was on a flight back from Philly and getting into LAX at 5:45.  With traffic and the distance, Johnny didn't make it until 7:35 but Neil and I were able to watch a little bit of the game from outside the stadium.  It was Dodger's vs. Philly's and we got in just in time to catch the bottom of the 2nd Inning.  After watching a couple innings it was time for some Beer & Dodger Dogs!  There's nothing like sitting and watching live Baseball with a Dodger Dog in hand...it's just the simple things in life :)  While our fellow Dodger fans were quite interesting, two young girls sitting next to us, that were in a tizzy with Celebrity Neil next to me, the two little boys in front of us that were yelling and cheering for the Dodgers which was so cute, and the random drunk girl and her boyfriend getting in trouble with Security for being loud and crazy, we all had a good time watching the game.  Johnny ended up a happy Philly's fan when they won 3-2.

Before we knew it, it was 10:30 pm and I knew I had an early and important day on Tuesday for the first day of the Trade Show so it was bed-time for a sad Dodger's fan!  Talk about an awesome and busy day, advancing my career, getting in a good work-out (running around in Downtown LA had it's perks) and getting to do something fun like going to a Dodger game with friends!  Now onto my busy week...

On Monday, I was doing a Photo Shoot with Alex in Downtown, Los Angeles.  Neil was going to be shooting as well, he needed new Headshots, and I was going to be shooting some too, along with some couple and lifestyle photos for Alex's portfolio and fun for us!

It was a beautiful day outside, in the low 80's, but pretty warm in the sun.  Thankfully, we were in the shade for the most part.  I started out with some headshots so Neil could see how Alex worked and after shooting one outfit, it was Neil's turn.  He shot a bunch of different looks in his T-shirt and then switched to this edgy button-down for another style.  Alex brought a prop guitar along, and with that shirt, it made for a perfect photo.  We shot these photos at a wooden wall with colorful graffiti all over it.  I shot another set of headshots in a different color shirt and then we shot a couple photos together, joking around, playing serious, Neil playing the guitar and me singing, etc.

After our first location, we were on our way to the second, deeper into the arts district underneath an overpass.  I shot some more headshots there and then Neil shot some in a denim shirt.  I was playing director, (because I do that so well ;)...and Neil didn't seem to mind, too much) and Alex was happy to have me helping him out as well.  I had fun, fixing hair and clothes, and being an assistant for the day!  Then we shot another round of photos, and then some in front of Alex's white BMW with Neil in all white, and me in white shorts and a coral tank top.  I didn't know what to expect but when I saw the previews on the camera they were super editorial!  I loved them :)

Then we were on our way to the third location where Alex wanted to shoot some pictures of us on the railroad tracks.  Unfortunately, a couple trains were blocking the view of Downtown LA that Alex wanted in the background so we played around on the tracks and took a couple photos but because it was so bright outside, and then underneath the overpass was so dark, it was a difficult shot so we moved onto our fourth location.

  

At our last location we were in the heart of Downtown, with chaos around us, and it was Neil's turn to kill it in his suit.  He took a ton of photos with different looks at the top of this escalator with buildings, green trees, and traffic going on behind him; it was actually really cool.  Once he got a bunch to choose from we moved to a fountain and sat down at a table and while Alex was setting up the camera we got shooed out of the area because it was private property so we moved to the sidewalk and were once again shooed away, except this time, the boys weren't going down without a fight, asking how the sidewalk could be private property and giving the security guard a hard time, but we ended up moving on anyway to an alley.  We took some awesome photos in there, very fun and flirty, but very classy and sophisticated.  

By the time we got done it was nearly 5:30 and we all had a long day of shooting were hungry and Neil had to get back to work at his day job.  So when he left to go home, I sat with Alex and his girlfriend, Kelly, while he uploaded the pictures and put them on a disc.  We ended up taking over 530 pictures!

Since we had such a long day, it was nice to go to Happy Hour with Alex & Kelly, along with their friend, Jenny, to Chaya in Downtown.  It was just about a 15 minute walk and we enjoyed sliders, this amazing corn appetizer, edamame, french fries, all different types of skewers, and other goodies along with wine and cocktails.  It was much needed and awesome to be out and social without having to be 'working.'  It's hard to call taking pictures and laughing with friends work ;)  We all had a great time, sharing stories, eating, drinking, and I'm definitely looking forward to another Photo Shoot & Happy Hour with good friends!

Spunky Wisconsin

A few weeks ago I had an Audition in front of Janice Dickinson and a couple other judges to walk the Runway for a Swimwear Line at Miami Fashion Week.  I completely forgot all about it until I got an e-mail saying we needed to get on the website and share the link to our video and vote.

Please take the time to check out my 2 minute video and vote for me because I'm just a normal girl from Wisconsin, who's all of 5"4, with real curves, and works hard.  I'd love to get the chance to inspire girls and women, that you don't need to have model stats to succeed in this business.  You can feel confident and have fun at any shape and size as long you've got a positive attitude and aspirations :)

This weekend I Hosted Karaoke on Saturday night!  It was exciting to be working a different night and hopefully, I'll be getting some people to come in on my normal Wednesday night to build it up more!  There were a lot of great singers, and a lot of new people.  It was a really busy night so I was only able to sing a couple of times, so my new song for the night was Madonna's 'Like A Prayer.'  Definitely a popular song, and one most Karaoke people have sung before, but it was my first time, and I will be singing it again!

Today I had an audition for a Hair Show.  The audition was in Woodland Hills at a Hair Institute.  The Audition started promptly at 1:15, and because I made it up there in 25 minutes, I was a half hour early.  I sat in the waiting area, read a magazine, and watched as each girl walked in.  Kind of amazing how they say 1:15 sharp, and people are walking in at 1:20.  It was a Brunette Call, but there were a couple red heads and blondes, yet everyone looked really different.  They then called us into a room where 10 students from Sebastian UK would be putting on a show tomorrow and they were finding their models at this call.  One by one each stylist picked a model, some checking hair, others just picking someone immediately.  If I had to guess, out of the 50 girls there for the call, I was one of very few who didn't have any color or product in my hair.  I did my hair straight but full and flowy, as most of the girls did.  The stylists chose all the redheads, a blonde, and the rest were brunette and ethnic and 15 minutes later I was walking out of the salon back to my car...better luck next time!  At least I can be happy that I got called in, and hopefully will be kept in mind for future shows and projects!
